12 Places I Love in the Market

My 12 Favorite Places in the Market, and the 3 things I love about each of them.

DeLaurenti
Pat McCarthy’s passion for the business
The Americanos, the brownies, the pizza by the slice
Um, all the rest of the food, including, but not limited to, the wine, the candied fruit, the cheese, the chocolate, and the filled pasta.

Daily Dozen Donuts
Watching the mini-donuts being made right in front of you!
The sprinkles.
The mohawked donut wrangler who tosses the last donut in your order 5 feet up in the air and catches it in the paper bag.

Le Panier
The smell the smell the smell
The almond friands
The croissants and brioche

Sosio’s
Free samples
You can handle the fruit and veggies and pick your own
They remember me

Jack’s Fish Spot
Really fresh fish
Good prices and no hype
They let us walk around to the back and watch as they filet the salmon

Pike and Western Wine Shop
Friday afternoon wine tasting
It’s small and manageable
the wine, of course!

Bavarian Meats
The smell – German butcher shop reminds me of being a kid
The women who work there sound like home
The BEST selection of Ritter Sport bars in the city.

Sur la Table
Fantastic selection of kitchen stuff
Nice people who work there
The catalog and on-line store

Café Campagne
The croque monsieur sandwich - omg
The January 20 Buck Duck dinner special
The window where you can look in to the kitchen.
The fact that the executive chef was test riding and buying a Vespa the same day I was!

Pike Market Creamery
The ricotta
The eggs
The black and white cows

Jonkheer Nursery
Fresh and beautiful tulips, with actual dirt on the leaves
The guy who threw in an extra bunch last week
Everyone who works there seems happy

Matt’s in the Market
The food
The view
The feeling that it’s a secret place, despite the lines out the door!
